This book is a marvelous adventure through a strange land with people you grow to care about. Amy finds herself in a strange land and must navigate where to go, who to trust, and most importantly, how to find her parents! Along the lengthy journey, she makes friends and learns about the world, and about herself.
The story is engaging, and you really become committed to the quest these young people have undertaken. Some of the “other-worldly” characters have very odd names, and since there are several of them, at times I found them difficult to track. Other than that, this is a great read for a pre-teen or teenager or young adult who enjoys adventure/quest/fantasy type literature. (or a great parent-child read together).
The book ends in a satisfying manner, but leaves a twist that sets you up for the sequel. This is almost standard for lots of books today, but what is unusual is that the author wrote the book at the age of thirteen and is already part way through the sequel. If this first novel is any indicator of what is to come, I very much look forward to the future works of Charlotte Rose Mandy.
What a brilliant review! (And thanks to them, there will be an index for characters at the end of book two :)
